Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Ahh, thank you for the reassurance, Purple_Monkfish!
The impending change has me somewhat worried. Some of my favorite things about Makies is that they don't have seams and have a different feel than hard plastic-bodied dolls. To me these are on par with the huge customization aspect. On the plus side, any sales MakieLab has in the future will likely make the price of a doll optimal for gifting. And the fact that they are focusing on making the newer bodies more kid-friendly gives me hope that Makies will still be quite durable, if not more so. I'm definitely looking forward to finally seeing pics of the IM bodies.

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Miss Heny, I was able to add a white Makie to my basket and made it to the check out screen... perhaps a wig, outfit, or eyes you chose are out of stock? The first white Makie I tried to put in my cart had a sold out wig (Legolas), and I wasn't able to proceed.

Sorry, I am just really worried i won't get them in time haha I am switching all my dolls to white body and I'll custom dye each one to their original planned skin tone.

They're not on what I was thinking of as "The Makies Facebook page", which is what confused me too - they're on the fangroup page. (I've asked to join, but it's still pending, I don't know how long that takes.)

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
So now I am paranoid. I just ordered two dolls on Wednesday, but now my younger brother wants a Makies doll too (it is Saturday morning now). Do you guys think it is still safe to order and still get the old/current body? He fell in love with the one Makies doll I have in the past two weeks (and he's observant/would notice the body being different and then hate it).
Gahh the nerves are getting to me!

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
I'm assuming Jen will give us a final warning, because otherwise people will be really upset.
Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Nope sadly they did not >_< I just took a shot in the dark and prayed for the best *I really did not want to have to deal with dying the dolls myself*

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
^Thanks for the quick reply Purple_Monkfish and Miss Heny.
I think I am going to take a hopeful chance as well and order another one today. Gahh the nerves always get to me. I won't be settled until it arrives on my doorstep and I can see proof of the doll having the current or soon-to-be-old body.
Edit: Just ordered, really hope it all works out with the body (this smiley is my head for the next 2 weeks: ).

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Does anyone know if the new hands and feet and shoes, etc will be 3Dp or if they will be injection molded?

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
I'm assuming they'll be IM but i'm not sure.
I ordered today as well, a white boy because otherwise i'll never have one. Order went through fine so i assume we're good to go till at least they get back into the office on tuesday. They weren't sure when the IM bodies were due in anyway, so i'm hoping we'll get an official notice about it and a proper date to order before.

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
I have full confidence that our orders made through the weekend will be 100% 3Dp bodies. Is Monday a UK holiday? I noticed you mentioned "back into the office on Tuesday"?
I asked about the hands and feet, etc because I had assumed that they would be IM, but then saw a response from Roopye, I think, on Instagram, maybe? I think she said that the hands/feet would be 3Dp, but I couldn't tell that it was more than just an assumption. I will try to track down more info.

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Okay, I've found it, for what it's worth...
From Roopye on Instagram: "the body's will be injection moulded rather than 3D printed, but the heads, hands and feet will still be printed" You can see the original comment on the Makie lab Instagram, on the picture of the white-haired strawberry milk Makie in the Parrot top.
I'm not sure where she would have heard this, but she sounds pretty confident. Anyone know anything?

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Yes, Monday is a bank holiday here in the UK. Business will resume as normal on Tuesday.
I'm afraid I don't know anything. They do sound confident, but without any source I think everything is just conjecture at the moment.
I thought that perhaps since the whole point of the switch was because, since bodies (and hands and feet) aren't customised, they were easier and cheaper to switch over to IM. With hands being pulled from the shop and redesigned, I figured they'd probably be IM from now on? But that's literally just speculation on my part. Maybe hopefully we'll get new info come next week?

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if really nobody knows exactly, but I thought it would make an interesting conversation point. I had the same thought as you. My guess was that they'd likely do IM for all the hands and feet. I'm not sure about the shoes and hearing aids, etc. I mean, for shoes it would probably be easy enough to do some basic IM styles. But for the hearing aids and other little things, maybe they would want to keep the quick-to-design advantage? Speculation is fun.
And thanks for the info on the bank holiday.

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
Yeah, there's definitely pros and cons to both methods. I feel like it'd be more likely that the whole of the body (hands and feet included) will be IM. If someone is buying a doll, they'll need all those parts, but won't be customising any of those parts. So it makes sense to IM those.
As for accessories, maybe they'll stay over on the 3D printed side, and be a more on-demand thing. I always got the impression that the accessory packs existed for a related reason? As in it costs too much to on-demand every single little accessory, but they can be packaged in bundles more cost-effectively. They're all optional things, so maybe IM wouldn't be a good route for them. ...Or maybe it would! Speculation is indeed fun.

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
I suppose I don't really care about whether they do IM or 3Dp for the shoes and accessories. I mean, I'll like them either way. I think I'm going to vote that they'll continue to 3D print the shoes, glasses, etc just in the spirit of having a guess.
I really am crossing my fingers for more 3Dp pets, actually.

^This. This right here is what I am hoping for. The bunny was so cute, but I didn't know Makies even existed at that point. Personally, I am a cat person (obsessed). We can hope.jupiternames wrote:I really am crossing my fingers for more 3Dp pets, actually.

I know no one knows exactly what they'll look like but can someone give me an example of another doll made with IM parts? Because I'm not sure I understand what that means :/

Re: BIG news from Makie labs.
I think that most plastic toys are injection molded. I did some google searches and it looks like Barbie is made by injection molding. I imagine that more expensive dolls are also injection molded--like Integrity. These have a seam, which injection molded products tend to have.
