Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by Artful Owl Sun Feb 21, 2016 12:52 am

In case anyone here isn't checking Ebay constantly (guilty), or isn't on Facebook. There are a bunch of accessories and classic Makies listed on Ebay. I'd link directly, but I'm on mobile and can't get paste to work.  Sadly the seller is using ebay's international shipping program, and shipping to the US is a bit nutty for one accessory. It might be worth it for a classic. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone here who may have missed it! Smile

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by nattherat Sun Feb 21, 2016 1:41 am

Aw thanks for the heads up! They're not for me, though I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted at all by a classic. I hope they go to great forever homes.

Something that makes me curious though is the description:
"Makie doll rescued from Makie HQ in London. High quality 3D-printed and hand-assembled. This is a genuine Makie doll and is likely the prototype / model for product photos or product development as it was removed from the Makielab offices just before they closed. As the company has now closed down and with the history this doll has, it is extremely rare!

We have recently acquired a vast amount of Makies stock - dolls, wigs, clothes, shoes / boots & accessories. We will be putting it all up on here but it will take a little time - please do check our other auctions for more stuff and keep checking back in case more has been added! This is the last remaining Makies stock - once it's gone, it's gone"
It seems a bit ominous, that all the stock, including perfectly good and recent brand new accessories have been left. As well as the wording that they've 'closed down', not 'moved'.

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by Artful Owl Sun Feb 21, 2016 2:04 am

The wording is a bit grim, but someone mentioned that this seller was probably just a liquidation specialist clearance agent. Based on this listing wording and the "sold" item listings I thought the same thing. They may not be in tune with anything beyond their own resale.
It is odd that newly printed stock is included. If I had to rationalize, I would say it probably would have cost too much to ship and pay someone to sort what could be sold in future from what should be left. Or the plan is to go in another direction in future. Speculation, but either way it is a chance at some makie history.

They are sure to go high, but I'll cling to a hope for one. I covet a classic. Smile

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by JRyu Sun Feb 21, 2016 5:17 am

Yes, even with the high shipping, I decided to buy a few pairs of the high heels, as I now have four adult Makie ladies who like to wear them.  I haven't really seen any other grownup high heeled shoes that fit Makie feet well, and look as good. Smile

Lol, and I'll confess I couldn't resist bidding on a few of the classic  Makies up for auction, maybe with luck I might win one.

Someone from the Facebook group contacted the seller, apparently he's only opened the first of several boxes of stuff from MakieLabs, and also has more Makie dolls to list!  Sounds like chances might be good for all of us wishing for another Makie! cheers

Good luck everyone! ^_^

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by Purple_Monkfish Sun Feb 21, 2016 10:39 am

I'm not optimistic i'll be able to get any. I think the competition is too fierce. We have a few collectors with far too much money to throw at these and I suspect instead of a nice fair distribution we'll see one or two people hoarding the lot which will piss me off.

I have my eye on a couple (there's a boy with a big ol' nose and you KNOW I love big noses) and another I think is pistachio but I really seriously doubt i'll be able to afford the price these eventually sell for.

The accessories are nice though, tempted by a few and keen to see what else he has in the other boxes. If he has an Ada, husband really wants her.

As it stands i'm not hugely interested in girls, I would love a classic boy with a large nose (always wanted one) and wouldn't mind a pistachio but that's about it. I'd love a boy to take the role of Jay as well as I never got to make him real, but I doubt anything quite right will pop up there. (cutie, caramel skin, super straight nose, sharp features)

I really hope the seller has enough to go around and we get some nice distribution amongst the group. I feel like maybe we should be a bit organized and clear about which ones we're eying up so we're not bidding against one another but I suspect we'll end up doing that anyway.

I wonder if there's any IM dolls in the lot, more special editions, older accessories, wigs or clothes.

The wording is super ominous and i'm not certain how Makies themselves might feel about the spreading of info that's not necessarily correct but quite damning for them.

So guys, what Makies are you hoping for? Remember if anyone ends up with more than they intended, there's always a loving home ready to adopt hah.

Those industrial boots are calling to me.. but they're such a pain to ram onto the dolls lol.

Post by nattherat Sun Feb 21, 2016 11:00 am

I'm keeping a casual watch on Pi currently, but if he's the one you want P_M, I'll hang back no problem. Very Happy He's cute, I like his weird face. I've only got him on my list in case nobody wants him (thanks to that face haha), and I wouldn't be bidding until the last day anyway, if I did at all.

I agree prices are probably going to get silly, which is why I'll personally stay out of this I think, for the most part.

I'll keep this thread updated with the names of any I'm watching, and I won't touch them if someone else wants them!

Post by Purple_Monkfish Sun Feb 21, 2016 11:31 am

I'm watching uh.. Tyler I think his name is (he's at like £30+ already!) and the pistachio boy in the terrible brown leafy pants (those pants ahahah)
Apparently there's a load more to list so i'm eager to see those, there might be one that's omg perfection that i'm willing to bite people's faces off to own hahaha.

It'll be interesting to see if they all go for a similar price or if certain ones do better. The boy with half his face obscured I thought might potentially go for less because you can't see his face and I figure the girls might do better because people seem to prefer girl dolls to boys but classic girls are pretty weird looking.

I know loads of people really wanted white dolls to dye as well. I was tempted to try that with my newest boy but then I felt bad about spoiling his pristine whiteness lol.

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by nattherat Sun Feb 21, 2016 11:53 am

Tyler? He's at £200 now. Sad I liked the look of Maven Hopper but she's already up to £90.

I'm actually a bit surprised at how much the bidding has escalated on some of them already. Is it because people are more into classics? Is it because this is the last chance? I feel like this is starting to prove the point that if Makies had appealed to the collectors market instead, they could have pulled in more money. If collectors were so disinterested, I think the dolls probably wouldn't break £30.

I'll continue to keep an eye on weird cute Pi then haha. I wish we'd been able to deform the faces that much on the cutie Makie maker. I love how his eyes are trying to escape out of the sides of his head. XD

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by Purple_Monkfish Sun Feb 21, 2016 12:36 pm

It's because a few people are mental and have way too much money I think.

£200 is absolutely ridiculous honestly. It kinda annoys me because it comes down to an elite few with more money than sense hoarding things because they can. -_-
I really hope others get a look in because it's a bit unfair if only one or two people win everything. (and it looks like the bidding history is mostly two people overbidding one another. *sigh* Wish I had that kinda expendable income right? heh)

I know there was a girl who really really wanted a boy doll, so fingers crossed she can get one, any one.
There was someone who really wanted any classic but can't afford £200 bloody quid so hopefully she'll get a look in too.

I'm feeling like I probably won't bid because I feel too greedy already have as many as I do and I don't NEED any of the ones up currently. I would have liked Tyler but there's no way I can pay that much for a blooming doll, that's insanity.
Unless some more get listed up and there's one that is omg spectacular to me, I think i'll sit this out. It's just going to piss me off. I'll keep an eye sure, but yeah... £200... what a joke. I'll keep an eye on the pistachio because I always wanted one but missed their availability.

I do wish we could have deformed the faces more like the classics. I mean yeah the girls were weird looking but the fact you could make them SO strange was kinda fun. The boys were super restricted in the cuties maker sadly, it always disappointed me you couldn't extrude the bridge of the nose to give them like.. proper beak-like noses and such.

It does prove that some of us are willing to pay crazy money for dolls though, and these aren't even custom made by us, so it is pretty telling of the obsession and also the appeal to a small group of fans.
I'm not sure i'd be willing to pay £200 for even a custom Makie though, perhaps £80 but that's about my max I think. And i'd need to be able to tweak a LOT more about the body and face in order to consider paying more. I mean, i'd love a doll of several of my ocs but the maker was always too limited to get the degree of teeny tweaks I would want (like the ability to mess with chin/jaw/overbites and ear angle) If you could tweak EVERYTHING then maybe i'd be willing to pay a premium to get something that looked absolutely perfectly like one of my characters. But i'm talking like, sims 3 level of nitpicky little sliders lol.

Anyway,

I had a chat with the seller who said he has some headless bodies too, trying to find out if they're IM (which would make a degree of sense given they'd have had to order them in bulk) or 3dp and all those details. Also apparently they have a load of hands, I wonder if they're special hands or just regular.
I'm looking forward to that. Spare parts if cheap enough would be insanely useful and if they have individual sets of expression hands? ooo yes.
I'm kinda hoping there's some really old accessories in there too, like the hook hands, tentacles, swords and such. I'd love some of those things.

I think unless there's a LOT of Makies and I get super lucky (I refuse to pay over the odds for a doll. I've never paid more than retail even for my classics, i'm not about to start now damnit) i'm likely to just stock up on accessories. Some nice boots, if they get any cute bits and pieces like weaponry or something. If I can get a spare arm to fix Jian's cracked shoulder that'd be great too. Her cracked shoulder really bugs me.
I'd also love some expression hands. I have a few sets  but more would be fun for photos and such right? I never got a hold of any cocoa ones.

I also wonder if there's any wigs, I always wanted that bright pink one. No idea who'll wear it, I just... want it hahah.

So yeah, I suspect i'll be buying up a load of accessories if all the dolls end up like £200+, because that's mental and no way am I selling a kidney for a doll. Nope, not happening.
If i'm gonna pay that kinda money, I may as well buy a BJD you know? Get something properly poseable.

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by nattherat Sun Feb 21, 2016 12:50 pm

Haha, that's my feelings about price too, and is part of what has made me finally turn to BJDs after ten years of looking at them from afar! I just eventually figured if I'm going to drop a lot of money on a doll, especially one that I have to mod ANYWAY just to get it looking how I want, I might as well go for higher-end sculpted poseable stuff. Very Happy

Do you mean the bright pink curly wig? I wanted that so much for Aurella haha. I ordered it during the sale, but they sent me the blonde one instead and said they couldn't exchange it for the pink one because they didn't have any. Sad

That'd be interesting if they had IM bodies. If I hadn't already decided to hybrid my makies, I would have been interested in some IMs just for the slight bit more articulation in the elbow. As it is, I don't think there would be any I want thanks to my hyrbriding plans.

In general spare parts will be cool to see, but I'll go cry in a corner if a bunch of the special expressive hands go up for much cheaper than I had to pay for them. Wink (I'm already crying about those, because once I hybrid I'll have no use for them anyway. I guess at least I'll probably be able to rehome them, but still.)

I hope people who really really want dolls can get them too. I think, given that other people want them more and honestly I have a "complete" makie crew (not all the ones I made in the maker, but all the ones from a set), I'll sit out on all dolls.

Now I need to just convince myself I seriously do not need that kitten carrier and the camera. I don't need them. No, it doesn't matter that they're adorable - especially the kitten - I do not need them. Very Happy

Crazy prices!  I won't be able to get anything unfortunately as now going to be away and without internet for some weeks.  Still probably a good thing as I can't afford anything anyway.

Good luck to those who are successful enough to win/buy something.

Wow those went up fast. I had my eye on hopper, but so do a bunch of people. She has already gone higher than I want to pay, but I figured that would be the case. I really just want ONE classic for my collection, and the truth is this just might not be the right opporitunity for me. It will be interesting to watch at least. I hope some folks can get what they want. Smile

cello_ace -I guess to me liquidation specialist and clearance company mean the same thing, but maybe I was using incorrect terminology.

I am eyeballing the cat and carrier too. I had planned to get the pack before the break. A lovely fb person has offered to help me resolve the shipping issue, but I'm having trouble deciding if I should order it now and have her help me, or if I should wait on the off chance I snag a classic risking a cat sell out to have combined shipping and not have to get shipping help. Lol My brain is doing circles.

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by JRyu Sun Feb 21, 2016 7:14 pm

Well, to a serious doll collector, who possibly really wants to own a Makie classic/prototype, maybe £200 doesn't seem like too much.

After all, Classics haven't been available for awhile, and who knows just how many or how few of them were sold.

Prototypes are like one-of-a-kind, and there are people who are nuts for prototypes of any sort.

Look at the prices some collectors pay for limited and one of a kind BJDs.  There is a preorder for an official Black Butler Sebastian BJD for $1,629.99 that's right around what a lot of the Volks SD13 and SD17 releases retail for.... Of course they are all a tad bit bigger than a Makie, being 1:3 scale.Wink

Then too, some people figure up the max amount they are willing to pay, bid that, and then don't go back and check until the auction ends.... Keeps them from getting all caught up in the excitement of a bidding war and over-spending what they can afford.

I just wish it was Alice and MakieLabs that was going to be getting that money instead of "mr-integrate".Rolling Eyes

Post by Purple_Monkfish Sun Feb 21, 2016 7:24 pm

none of them are prototypes, they're alpha release. The one it claims is prototype has a certificate that lists it as one of the first 50. So it's not a prototype, it's just a first release alpha makie, like the one I have here. Cool yes, but hardly as special as the seller would like to make out. It's not like it's 1/50, it's like 27/50 or something.

Honestly I think some people just have way too much expendable income. I hate being poor, it sucks. But the price of that BJD? That's ridiculous. I do hope these people are putting the rest of their money into sensible things because if you have over a grand to drop on a frivolous toy, you have way too much cash laying around.

I hope he lists the rest of the stuff up soon, I want to write up a list of accessories I want to get.

I can however see this whole thing getting nasty because jealousy and all that. It's gonna suck. So i'm gonna like.. hide for a bit and hope like hell it all works out fair for everyone and they all get a chance to bid and own a nice doll. I think a lot of people will be really resentful and bitter if the whole lot goes to only one or two people you know? So hopefully people will restrain themselves from being too well.. greedy.
Good luck everyone. Hope you can get the dolls and accessories you want without taking out a second mortgage.
Likely i'll only be able to afford some accessories. I do hope others can get a look in on the auctions though and they aren't hoarded by one or two people with way too much cash on hand. It'd be nice if the whole group could get a chance you know? mix it up a bit, new dollies for everyone.

Ah well, there's always worse things that people spend their disposable income on, like booze or drugs, hardcore gambling, designer label clothes...shoes...purses...etc., or a whole fleet of flashy cars....

I know someone who at one time owned a Sunbeam sports car from every single year they were produced, except one.  He had his house remodeled with a huge garage that would hold all his Sunbeams, plus all the cars they actually drove day to day.

Ironically, the one car he couldn't find and wanted the most was the same year as the first Sunbeam he'd ever owned... The one he'd had to sell in order to be able to buy a station wagon, because a little two seater sports car just wasn't practical with a wife and three kids.

I don't think it will be so bad, or that any one or two people (who belong to the communityat least) will get them all.  (Not an attack on your thoughts p_m, just my perspective, respect).
I am thrilled with the makies I have. And while I'd love a classic, I won't resent anyone wins or bids against me. I think sharing the existence of the auction with both groups to begin with was a pretty fair and transparent move. Not to say that missing out isn't a bummer, but more like a 2 or 3 out of 10 bummer than a 7or 8 out of ten on the pout scale. Wink

(edit: to clarify for future readers that I am referring to the intensity of my own feelings and not implying that they should be a yardstick for anyone else.)

You guys are right, i'm just grumpy.
I do hope people who have been lamenting and pining after a Makie for the past few months get a chance to own one, it'd be lovely if the whole group could have a big distribution of new (old) dolls and accessories to rekindle their love and play.

I'm eagerly awaiting my new girl who Georgie rescued from the lab (apparently, from what I understand of the situation). I'm excited about getting her.
I also really do need to sit down and get to know my classic boy Noah a little more. He finally told me his name at least.

I'm gonna need to have a lot of dolly play time I think. The grey weather and home situation is making me super moody and awful. I hate this time of year and I hate when husband is unemployed, it really winds me up.

I don't think you're awful P_M, I think your feelings are all perfectly valid, and whether they're "proportionate" to a situation or not doesn't make them invalid. Sounds like there's been a lot on lately, and a lot of drama/unnecessary misunderstandings. Mega hugs of support from me.

Hopefully lots of people will get nice new makies. If there are other boxes to open, then it's probably quite promising. I think I'm even going to pass on accessories myself, unless something really spectacular comes up. I'm horribly low on cash currently anyway (so it's doll self-sustaining time. I can't buy Gil new clothes until I've sold his old body. Can't buy props until I've sold custom pairs of eyes, etc.), and I'm conscious of the fact that there are artists who create very realistic 1/6 miniatures that I'd probably prefer instead.

I'm eager to see what's in the rest of the boxes, even if just for my own curiosity!

I really want swords, my space pirates NEED swords and action man ones are a bit too hard to find.

He claimed he had bodies, I wanna get my hands on some of them hahaha (sounds so wrong) just to have spare parts in case any of mine break. I mean I already have three that are damaged in some small way, they're so fragile unfortunately.
you bend something the wrong way trying to take a shirt off and bam, cracked. Boo.

That was another advantage the IM bodies had, they would bend rather than break if you accidently twisted them the wrong way or whatever.

Anyway,

I found a picture that's totally unrelated but really cheered me up

I haven't stopped laughing since I saw this. I just.. the eyeshadow.. the lipstick.. everythng is just so beautifully terrible. I love it, I want it, and oh dear i'm still giggling like a moron.

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Post by Artful Owl Mon Feb 22, 2016 3:54 pm

New wrinkle, news from the fb group. Someone must have e-mailed alice about them and Alice is trying to remove the doll listings as they were not to be sold.(take this as the third hand information it is). Georgie (also worked there) says she remembers boxing them for preservation and they have wear and flaws (paraphrasing).

I think knowing that Alice didn't want them sold will prevent me from bidding on them more than the idea that they are flawed. As far as has been stated, I'm assuming the accessories were ok to sell?

P_M - was the coco makie girl the one you purchased from Georgie? I saw her on Etsy and had her in my cart, but then realized that PayPalCredit doesn't pop up in international Etsy listings. Glad you got her though, or was she the IM girl?

Yeah the cocoa girl. And aww. I didn't mean to buy her, I was showing husband some 3d printed dolls on etsy and spotted a Makie and was like "whaa?" so she uh.. jumped lol.

I didn't know paypal credit didn't work on international, how odd and kinda frustrating. I've never used it, I just have a card linked to my account heh.

And this news is... odd. Why were they sold if they weren't supposed to be resold? I understand the accessories as those can totally be resold but were the dolls just an "oops, those weren't supposed to be included" situation or do you think it's more than Alice objects to the wording of the auctions? Not only do they claim the lab has "shut down" which from what we understand isn't true, and that no flaws are being disclosed, it could reflect badly if they are bought and aren't up to scratch right?
I have no problem buying damaged dolls, just it should be clear that's what you're buying but it's likely the seller has absolutely no clue. I wonder if Alice would have objected had the prices remained low. Hmm.

Either way, I look forward to more information on that front because what else can the seller do with the items? It would be absolutely disastrous for those dolls to end up dumped or something, better they end up in the hands of collectors who could fix them up.

I assume the accessories are fine though, and i've been eyeing those up. He claimed he had hands and bodies too and I wondered if those were spare IM parts or faulty 3d prints, he never got back to me on whether they were plastic or 3dprinted sadly. Probably overwhelmed with questions.

Still, I do hope we get some clarification from Alice about all this and those dolls don't end up at the dump. They deserve a chance at a forever home even if they are flawed. I always get sentimental about dolls heh, and with Makies they're like small nylon people so it's like "nooo save them!"

Classic Makies on Ebay Empty Re: Classic Makies on Ebay

Oh she is a cutie. I'm actually glad Etsy (and you) saved me from myself, as I shouldn't be charging dolls anyhow, and if I'm honest with myself I would really rather find a classic or an elf eared light colored character to dye for my forest folk. She will cheer you up for sure.

There is much posting on the Ebay news in the FB group and I think roopye is going to copy and paste the actual thread info later for the sake of being exact.

that'd be brilliant! It sounds like it's all a bit of a mess.
hmm.. if the Makies weren't meant to be sold maybe Alice can get them back. I hope they do end up somewhere safe.

And yeah, hopefully she will cheer me up a bit. I was going to order a cocoa girl when teh lab reopened anyway so she fills the slot heh.

I'd love another light coloured one because I still really want a grassy green doll, or a pistachio I could creatively blush to emphasise the green. That's my dream. A lovely pistachio elf to greenify lol.
