Toy Like Me accessories!
Wow, check out the cane and hearing aids available in the store as part of the Toy Like Me campaign!
What a cool and positive concept!
Kudos to MakiesLab for being one of the first toy companies to respond! ^_^

That was fast. It's so good to see such a positive response to the campaign.
I did send in a suggestion that they might include an option for red eyes, which, given the options already available, would enable the creation of an albino doll.

Great idea Ariachne!
I'm glad they are taking advantage of the flexibility and speed of 3D printing to respond to a need. None of my characters currently need hearing or walking aids, but I'm tempted to buy them just to support the idea.

I saw that too, it's nice to know that doll company's have started to widen their images, like the Lammily doll. There is no 'normal' doll, everyone's unique, that's why I love makies!

I wonder how the hearing aids will fit various ears. I imagine there's an ideal ear design for the hearing aids.

I believe the listing said they work best on "unmodified ears" which in my interpretation means not elven but i don't know...jupiternames wrote:I wonder how the hearing aids will fit various ears. I imagine there's an ideal ear design for the hearing aids.

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
I heard back from Jen at MakieLab and she says that they've been looking for red eyes that suit Makies for quite a while, but haven't found any options that fit their budget and quality standards yet. She also says that if we can suggest any possible candidates, to let them know.
So good to know that this was already on the agenda. I hope they find a suitable supplier. I did find some 18mm albino eyes on ebay, but they were full round glass, so not suitable for production models.

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
From their twitter, looks like they're also designing wheelchairs!
I didn't have any plans for more makies to be honest, but if they actually do the wheelchair? Yep. I will throw my wallet at makielabs very hard.
I just really hope they think about implementing different body types at some point!

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
I have so much NEED in my SOUL for a wheelchair bound doll. like.. omg. NEEDS man.
Also, Hetty is stinking cute. Are they like the LE ones or one offs?
I've asked them to consider a prosthetic leg, because i'm selfish and one of my Makies/rp characters happens to have a prosthetic leg. It'd save me having to craft one from bits and bobs and hope it didn't look awful. heh.
Fingers crossed there, because ya know, I needs me vampire amputee. He's a fun character.
The fear of crafting that leg is putting me off ordering him, it just.. argh.

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
Exactly!
One of my older characters, from a book I published in 2012, was a little girl with ataxia. Her motor functions were affected, and by the time she appeared in a later book in 2013, she relied entirely on mobility machinery and the help of her friend.
Since it's a story I finished and "closed the book on" (I suppose literally) years ago, I didn't think about creating a doll of her until now. If they bring in the wheelchair, or similar equipment, I'm doing it. I'm ordering that makie. (Then... maybe I'll reconsider reprinting the book haha)

I hope they can find eyes that actually look like human albino eyes! I've never seen any, though I haven't really looked either.Ariachne wrote:I heard back from Jen at MakieLab and she says that they've been looking for red eyes that suit Makies for quite a while, but haven't found any options that fit their budget and quality standards yet. Oh! I also asked for prosthetic limbs! I wonder how that might work due to not an easy to take apart knee and arm joint...Purple_Monkfish wrote:I have so much NEED in my SOUL for a wheelchair bound doll. like.. omg. NEEDS man.

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
You could always paint the limbs for the mean time, if you don't mind messing them up. The wheelchair would be an interesting feature, making it extremely tempting to put one of my guys with one (especially as I'm thinking Heidi might be the next one to be made real, but not for a loooong time)

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
I asked for a white cane ( done! ) an eyepatch and a guide dog.
I think light pink/ very pale blue albino eyes would be great! I know a little girl with albinism and she would love it.

Has anyone actually got any ear stuff yet? I'm curious to see how they fit on, and if they only fit one ear type

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
I'm waiting till my next order but i'm really curious as well. None of my current lot require hearing aids though, but I suppose it's something to explore with any later ones huh? I'm eager to see the wheelchair, THAT I do want.
Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
The assistive items are what tipped me over from the "ahh, that's cute, and I could make stuff for that" to "I really want one of these". I found Makies through the Toys Like Me campaign on Facebook.
I'm think I'm just about to push "buy" on my first Makie doll - I've been going back and forth on it because yes, they go cost a lot, but they're awesome and I want to put my money where my mouth is since the company have been so eager about representation.
I have some semi-plans to try carve a walking stick - I say "try" because it's been a long time, but I think it's worth a shot, and I'd like to do one that was in wood.

Have done! Ordered right after I made the comment. Now to wait out my two weeks.
And I've picked up some cheap bamboo knitting needles to have a first go at making a cane - not sure if they will be suitable they're the right width, it's just a matter of a bit of carving and working out a handle. That's on hold though, as I'm off work sick and not allowed anything sharp until the room stops spinning.

Re: Toy Like Me accessories!
For prosthetic limbs, they could have the top half of the leg but rounded like a stom that was able to fit a prosthetic on it.
